The Filigree Engagement Ring

Filigree is a delicate kind of jewelry metalwork, made with tiny beads or twisted threads, or both in combination, inlaid to the surface of an object and arranged in artistic motifs. Though filigree has become a special branch of jewelry in modern times, it was historically part of the ordinary work of the jeweler.

Beginning in the early 1900’s, the Edwardian Era, American craftsmen began to create what is known as the Filigree engagement ring. This was ring was not produced by soldering wire motif’s into rings, rather, relieving areas of the metal with a jewelers saw blade to create the same effect

The filigree engagement ring today is also commonly known as an “antique engagement ring” or “vintage style engagement ring.”
