Whitehouse Brothers uses a special process called "die striking" to create their catalog products.    This process is unique to Whitehouse and what separates the product from any other jeweler.    The die struck process super compresses the metal, which creates a stronger, more durable engagement ring.    Every other jeweler in Cincinnati and around the world uses the cast process, which creates a more porous and less durable ring.

Every Whitehouse Brothers filigree and vintage engagement ring is produced using the die struck process.   The rings are struck in multiple pieces, then pierced with tiny saw blades to create the negative space.   After saw piercing, the rings are assembled using soldering and welding techniques.    At this point, the ring takes shape and is ready for stone setting and engraving.    Stones are set and details engraved by hand under high powered microscopes.    A high polish is then hand applied to the ring.    The center stone is set to complete the engagement ring followed by a final high polish.

Most vintage rings that are available on the market are cast pieces with cast-in engraving and milgrain.    Whitehouse Brothers uses the special die struck process to create their rings.    All details are cut by hand and milgrain applied by hand.   This creates a sharper, more high definition design.   Only true heirloom quality pieces are made by this process.

The short answer is "yes".    Platinum is the most durable of all precious metals.    Its dense, high white characteristics allow it to not only feel and look good, but all wear slowly over time.   We often see 100 year old Whitehouse Brothers rings come back to the shop for sizing or small repairs.    These rings are almost always platinum.    Gold rings will require servicing more regularly.    If budget allows and a white metal is your choice, always pick platinum over 14K or 18K white gold.
