Types of Precious Metals

Choosing the Right Metal

All Whitehouse Brothers pieces are available in Platinum or White, Yellow and Rose gold.

Platinum is the preferred metal for filigree because it offers superior strength and durability for the intricate filigree and engraving. It's bright white color compliments the brilliance of a diamond like no other metal.

Platinum

Platinum is the ideal metal for filigree jewelry. A piece of jewelry that is made from platinum is stronger than the same piece made from gold. Platinum prongs hold precious stones more securely than their gold counterparts. It is also an extremely ductile metal, which simply displaces when scratched, so there is no metal loss during wear. This will help with longevity, as the Platinum content will not be lost as fast as gold over time. Platinum is also more dense than gold and hypoallergenic. More rare than gold, Platinum has more lasting value as a precious metal. The purity of this metal is unsurpassed in highlighting the beauty of diamonds or other precious stones — the deep white luster enhances the brilliance of the stone and stays high white over time, not requiring frequent refinishing or plating.

Yellow Gold

14k and 18k yellow gold are used for their beautiful color and strength. Many people prefer the look of yellow gold for its warmer tones and contrast with the brilliance of diamonds and gemstones.

White Gold

White gold contains zinc, nickel, silver or palladium alloys for strength and durability. Our 14k and 18k white gold are a nickel based alloy. 14k white gold contains 58.5% gold, while 18k white gold contains 75% gold.

Rose Gold

Rose gold is once again becoming a very popular metal in jewelry. It's color components make for a beautiful contrast providing a very unique look. Rose gold is created by adding copper to yellow gold.
